I’m not going to miss 95% of life to weigh 5% less.

Hi beauties πŸ‘‹

My name is Ling. I'm a New York-based Health Coach passionate about helping women discover healthy lifestyles that are realistic, balanced and sustainable. For some of us, eating is way more complicated than calories in, calories out. It's a touchy subject that can stir up a lot of frustrating emotions. I think many of us can recall the exact moment family, friends, boyfriends, teachers, acquaintances and/or strangers made us feel awful or ashamed about how we looked. Some of those memories can still bring tears to my eyes.

My own journey has been a long, complicated one. I struggled with disordered eating and body dysmorphia for more than a decade: I went through bouts of intense caloric restriction, developed abnormal eating habits, obsessively weighed and body checked myself. It wasn't until I lost my younger sister to leukemia that I realized I was foolishly taking advantage of the one thing she did not have: good health.

This epiphany led me to completely change my lifestyle. I began exercising regularly, started eating proper meals, discovered my love for cooking, saw a psychiatrist and nutritionist and began to reeducate myself about nutrition (fat doesn't make you fat, carbs are not the enemy!). It's been 5 years and my attitude towards food, eating and weight have changed drastically. I no longer fixate on an unrealistic double digit goal weight which has been incredibly liberating.

When I started sharing my story on Instagram, I realized that my struggle is not unique to me. Many women I've connected with have experienced variations of what I've gone through. My hope is that PRETTY BALANCED will show women who have or are currently struggling with food and body image that change is possible and that there is a positive way to move past years of detrimental behavior and thinking. I hope PRETTY BALANCED will inspire women from all walks of life to figure out what being healthy means for themselves. Whether it’s a new recipe, nutrition tip or interview, I hope everyone will find something positive and uplifting here.

With love,
